how can design showcase early-stage construction technology?

Automated forming is a novel method of concrete construction that converts existing construction equipment to form concrete robotically. The conversion kit includes cab control conversion and a reusable, automated end-effector form which allows serial placement and setting of concrete. As an early-stage construction technology, design plays an important role in the success of this project – design-to-fabrication thinking enables the engineering work to be simplified while presenting a finished structure that could easily be imaged as a house. This project, composed of an outdoor pavilion and a residence, explores the potential of automated forming through its impact on design features such as form and materiality.
