can a library contribute community functions at a larger urban scale?
The Marigny Public Library offers not only library program and public accessibility, but also creates a physical barrier between the industrial riverfront of the New Orleans Marigny neighborhood and the surrounding residential areas. To accomplish this urban-scale move, the building was conceptualized as a division of the site separating the industrial and residential areas, and as a result creating outdoor public space protected from the industrial activity across the street. An additional satellite building makes after-hours accessibility possible through smaller scale operational costs.
